GENERAL GUIDELINES

Please submit the highest quality dub possible of your piece. If we can't watch it because of tracking problems or other media-related difficulties, then your work will not be picked for exhibition.

You need to include your name, the title of the piece(s), exact running time, and any "blurb" (50 words or less) you would like put in the program.

If you wish to have your media returned, you will need to include the proper postage and a mailing container with your submission.

FINAL TAPE GUIDELINES

The tape must be recorded in Mini DV, NTSC VHS, or DVD format.
Use SP recording mode on your tape.
The first 30 seconds of the tape should contain bars and tone.
5 seconds of black should appear after the bars and tone. If you include more than one piece on your tape, you should also put 5 seconds of black in between each piece.
Although not necessary, try to include a universal countdown leader after the 5 seconds of black.

FINAL FILE GUIDELINES

Only Quicktime (.mov) or Windows Media (.avi) files will be accepted.
DV encoding is preferred, but a higher quality codec (i.e. Sorensen 3-4, MPEG 1-4, uncompressed or a standard lossless codec like Quicktime Animation format) is acceptable.
The file(s) must conform to NTSC broadcast specifications (non-DV files should be 640x480 @ 30fps... or 29.97 if you wanna get picky).
The file(s) must be provided on either a DVD-R or a CD-ROM (Macintosh or PC format).

FINAL FILM GUIDELINES

All films must have 5 feet of head and tail leader and a universal countdown before the first frames of sound or picture.
All 'talkies' must be single system with an optical soundtrack.

JUDGING AND ACCEPTANCE PROCEDURES

Tri-annual submissions will be screened by a committee selected by SOFA. At the screenings, filmmakers get one free admission to the screening. Ballots are handed out to the audience members and the top two films are selected for the yearly "Best of Underneath" event.
